Are you looking for an outdoor space that’s up-to-date with the trends? Every year, new fashions and trends seem to come out and if you want to stay one step ahead with your outdoor space, then you need to find out about trends early on so you can plan, plant, and maintain the style of the year.

2018 is going to be a great year for the outdoors, but as the weather is a little colder than usual, I am sure there aren’t too many people who have been out to plant or mow their lawns.

However, if you’re itching to get out in the garden and start planning this year’s look – here’s a sneak peek at what the likely trends for this year are going to be.

  1. Naturalistic

This year isn’t going to be about the small details. Many outdoor enthusiasts are looking to add a little natural touch to their gardens by letting nature take its course. For some gardeners this is a welcome relief and a little more to their liking. For others, who probably describe themselves as perfectionists, this could be harder.

  1. Outdoor Living

You might let the garden go slightly wild, but that doesn’t mean you want to be inside. Outdoor living is here to stay and it looks like it could grow. Industry experts say that by 2021, spending on gardening products will grow by 22% to £7 billion.

Some of the biggest purchases are going to be in outdoor living spaces, with outdoor seating, entertainment, and outdoor kitchens being hot purchases for this year. Those who have already invested in alfresco living are going to be rewarded this year.

  1. Scandi-style

There has been a big move in outdoor buildings that have a minimalistic Scandinavian style. This look emerged in the early 20th century and flourished in the 1950s in the Nordic countries. Now it has entered the UK market and is firmly establishing itself.

  1. Upcycling

Upcycling has been popular for many years and it will continue into 2018. The great thing about upcycling is that memories can still be retained with items that no longer fulfil their purpose by giving them a new lease of life.

Consider giving a bucket a new life as a plant pot, or a set of drawers as a raised flower bed.
