The UK’s bad weather is coming upon us, and there is a risk that installations you’ve already completed could become damaged. This can cause friction between you and customers because they can sometimes blame the installer for the damage, instead of realising that some simple care tips can prevent it.

To help you, it might be a good idea to offer customers free advice on how they can take care of their installation. Alternatively, you could offer customers care services. The latter of these can lead to a great secondary income for your business.

But what if customers just want tips? What tips could you give them to help them look after their installation? Here’s a selection:

  1. Clear The Roof Regularly Of All Debris

Autumn leaves, and other debris can easily collect on installation roofs, and this should be cleared regularly to prevent excessive loading on the top of the installation which might damage it. Customers should use a soft brush to prevent scratches to the roof area.

  1. Clear Snow Off The Roof As Quickly As Possible

Snow can be very heavy and should be removed from the roof of any installation as soon as it has settled. Again, a soft brush should be used to prevent scratching.

  1. Allow Areas To Ventilate

Glass rooms and other areas which are sealed need to be ventilated to prevent mould, even in very cold weather. Mould can be very hazardous to health and to installations.

  1. Keep Rooms At A Consistent Temperature

Temperature control should be consistent if you expect to heat the room at any time. Temperatures fluctuating can cause cracks or other damage as the material expands and contracts.

  1. Regular Cleaning And Testing

One of the best ways to maintain an installation is the regular cleaning and testing of the installation. This allows early signs of damage to be spotted and repaired, plus prevents any damage in the first place.

Conclusion

Your customers’ installations need to be protected from the harsh UK winters and according to some reports, it’s going to be a cold winter this year. If your customers don’t want to have you regularly maintain their installations, then you should offer them advice on how they can look after them to ensure their installation remains in good condition.

Do you offer an after-installation service? Do you offer free care advice?
