For example you don’t want to buy a canopy with roof panels that are structured or coloured if you would like to be able to view the open sky. And you need to know the rough size you require when asking for prices.

So if you are at any stage of the veranda buying process, take a minute or two to ask yourself the below questions if you haven’t already and note down your answers so you remember what’s important to you when buying a veranda for your garden or outside area.

What will it be used for? The use can affect the appearance and construction materials required.

Can it be fitted to a wall? Wall mounted structures can be much more cost effective and space-saving.

How big does it need to be? Decide on a size so you can start gathering prices.

Is shade from the Sun important? If one of the reasons you want a veranda is to provide shade and protection from the sun, then UV protection will be important to you – remember to look out for this feature.

How much is my budget? Budgets are always important, set yourself a budget, work out your le-way make sure the company you go with has no hidden costs.

Is noise during a downpour an issue? You can hear rainfall on polycarbonate roofs much easier than on glass roofs. Many find this sound relaxing, however if you would like to keep rain sounds to a minimum, then a glass roof would be your best option.

Will I want it coloured to match the house? Many companies offer their structures in a range of colours including RAL colours to create an exact match to your existing outside features such as windows frames. But be sure to check as some companies may offer a limited selection of colours.

Do I want to see the sky through the roof? If the view of the sky is important, then structured polycarbonate would not be suitable. Glass or solid polycarbonate which has a glass like appearance are perfect for star gazing and viewing the open sky in all its beauty.

Will there be ball games in the vicinity? If you have children or family/friends that regularly visit and may play ball games in the garden, it would be safest to stay away from glass. Many companies do offer toughened glass as standard, however polycarbonate is much stronger. The structured polycarbonate used for the Simplicity range of verandas is up to 200 times more resistant to impact than glass!
