Everyone is exposed to UV radiation from the sun and many people now days are also exposed to artificial sources such as from industry, commerce and recreation. It is important to try to limit the amount of UV you and your family are exposed to. One way to do this is to seek shade under a structure that provides protection from UV rays such as a garden canopy or veranda when at home in your garden.

It is well known that UV rays can cause damage to your skin and impact your health. However, everyone loves being outside in the sun and it would be possible to avoid it completely – not to mention that we wouldn’t really want to!

Here’s some top tips to help you keep safe in the sun:

Search for shade from a protective structure such as a canopy, it is important to remember though that trees, umbrellas and some canopies do not offer full protection from the sun. However, you will be pleased to know that our polycarbonate canopies in the Simplicity range offer in excess of 98% UV protection, providing a safe place to seek shelter when the sun is at its strongest.

When you are out and about and may not be able to seek shade, wear protective clothing such as a wide brimmed hat which will protect your eyes, face, ears and the back of your neck. Choose sunglasses that offer 99% – 100% protection and tight woven, loose clothing which will also help to keep you cool.

Wear sunscreen that offers a SPF of 15 or higher and re-apply every couple of hours and after swimming and washing.
